Surveying provides the foundation for all engineering work — data collection and organization that is essential to accomplishing accurate engineering design. If the data is not collected and presented in a way that engineering decisions can be made efficiently, it is highly unlikely that the client’s expectations will be met satisfactorily . It is also highly probable that there will be many change orders while the job is under construction.

We use a combination of high-tech equipment and time-tested training to collect and present data efficiently and comprehensively. Systems are regularly upgraded so our clients can take advantage of the most sophisticated equipment. We have an inventory of state-of-the-art tools such as total stations, digital levels, and GPS equipment. We also maintain equipment and software designated by the procedures of our clients. For example, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) requests the TDS Husky data collector that uses TxDOT’s SDMS software, CAiCE software, MicroStation, and GEOPAK.

Rigorous field procedures are used in control establishment and data collection to provide the basis for the accuracy required. We regularly collect data in the following datums—assumed horizontal, geodetic NAD >27, NAD >83, HARN, assumed vertical, NGVD >29, NAVD >88, and WGS 84. From the simplest to the most complex survey assignment, we do all of our research and field work, then draw on our professional experience to formulate the conclusion that will assist the owner and design team in making well-informed decisions.
